Late last week, it was revealed that former Fox News host Tucker Carlson will host former President Donald Trump for a sit-down interview at the same time as the first 2024 Republican Presidential debate. Clay Travis believes the timing isn’t a coincidence.
During The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show Friday, the pair remarked on the breaking news revolving around Trump’s decision.
“This is a big story,” argued Buck Sexton. “Because if Trump’s not going to do August, why would he ever do any debates?”
“I’m not sure that he will,” Travis replied. “I think he may just say that people know me, they know what I do. They know what I stand for. That’s it. There’s only downside for him unless the numbers shift dramatically against him. There’s only downside. And for Tucker, to be able to stick his thumb in Fox News’ eye like this? This is the biggest event Fox News will have all year. And he now is going to be, in theory, upstaging it with the Donald Trump interview. Get your popcorn. I mean, this is pretty interesting on multiple different levels.”
Trump has often claimed he has nothing to gain by participating in the debates. Instead, he will interview with Tucker Carlson, which will publish Wednesday during the debate. The former President has called Fox News a “hostile network” after his interview with Bret Baier, who will co-moderate the first debate with Martha MacCallum.
