Syndicated talk host Erick Erickson says the media is starting to promote a resurgence of the COVID-19 virus and mask mandates. Erickson observed that talk is increasing in mainstream circles. He says his son came down with the virus before his event, “The Gathering,” held last week.
“I want to mention something that has come up a little on the radio today, “said Erickson. “The media is starting to freak out about COVID coming back.”
Erickson says he received a call on Wednesday from a listener about mask mandates.
“I will tell you, in the run-up to The Gathering, my kid got sick,” Erickson said. “He was negative for COVID. He was the first case of the flu. The doctor says it was like he won the lottery.”
Erick Erickson stated that he was worried that if his son tested positive for COVID, he would have to take a test and possibly end up canceling his event, which would cost him money. The event drew about 1,000 people and featured six 2024 Republican presidential candidates and Governors Brian Kemp (R-GA) and Glenn Youngkin (R-VA).
“The doctor said they had seen over 20 kids with COVID that day. In fact, in my part, there’s COVID and strep throat going around in the school system.”
Erickson urged his audience not to buy into the media hype of mask mandates.
“If you listen to my program, I was willing to go along with masks at first,” he said. “There was a lot of data out there and a lot of studies that said they (masks) played a role in keeping COVID from spreading. At this point, all the data shows masks are useless unless you wear an N-95 mask.”
