During a moment in the first 2024 Republican Presidential debate Wednesday, Fox News anchor Bret Baier was forced to address the crowd after it relentlessly booed former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. Baier is keenly aware of how the situation played out on television.
During a podcast interview with Politico, Baier joked the situation rivaled another feeling many know all too well.
“When they were booing and Chris Christie couldn’t talk, that’s the time that we both turned around to the audience,” said Baier. “And at that point, I did feel like the dad driving the station wagon going, ‘You guys keep yelling, I’m going to turn this car around’.”
Christie had drawn ire from the crowd for his propensity to attack former President Donald Trump. Many of Christie’s campaign talking points have been centered around his perception that Trump is unfit for America’s highest office.
While discussing Trump, the crowd raucously booed Christie, causing Baier to say that the noise would prohibit the attendees from getting more answers from the assembled candidates.
