Legendary Notre Dame Radio Voice Tony Roberts Dies

Radio Hall of Fame voice and legendary Notre Dame play-by-play announcer Tony Roberts died over the weekend. He was 94 years old.

News of Roberts’ passing came just before the Fighting Irish kicked off the 2023 season against Navy in Ireland.

Roberts began calling Notre Dame games on the radio in 1980. He would be the voice of the Fighting Irish for 25 years.

In addition to Notre Dame football, he called the NFL, NCAA football, basketball and baseball, as well as the Olympics for Westwood One.

Roberts was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2016. He is also a 2005 recipient of the National Football Foundation Chris Schenkel Award.
