Fans of the Dallas Cowboys and the NFL knew the name Gil Brandt. Those fans that listened to SiriusXM regularly got to know the man as a personality as well.
Brandt, who was a regular presence for years on SiriusXM NFL Radio, passed away on Thursday. He was 91 years old.
Steve Cohen, who had been the SVP of sports programming for SiriusXM until earlier this year, took to X (formerly Twitter) to pay tribute to a man he called his mentor.
“The football world lost a HOFer,” Cohen wrote. “I lost my mentor and someone who was a 2nd father to me. Gil Brandt was my friend and he was always there for me and my family. I loved him very much and was blessed to have him in my life. RIP Gil and thank you for everything you did for me.”
SiriusXM paid tribute as well. NFL Radio posted a graphic on X honoring Brandt.
