Two decades in the media world is a significant accomplishment, with the industry often going through changes more often than not. Lars Larson will hit this milestone this month as he celebrates 20 years in syndication radio.
Larson took his opportunity and has made the most of it these last two decades. He’s currently the No. 1 afternoon talk show host on KXL Portland, OR, and heard live from 3 pm to 6 pm PT (6 pm to 9 pm ET) on over 100 affiliate stations.
“20 years ago this month, Peter Kosann (then CEO of Westwood One) asked me to do a nationally syndicated radio talk show to replace a departing host,” Larson said in a Compass Media Networks press release provided to Barrett News Media.
“When Peter and I both left WW1, and he formed Compass Media Networks, he asked if I would continue the partnership we had forged in the first [six] years. I quickly and happily agreed. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”
Larson won’t be leaving the airwaves anytime soon, as he struck a five-year agreement last December to continue to have his show distributed by Compass Media Networks.
“It has been the highlight of my 48 years in radio to work hand-in-hand with Peter Kosann and Compass Media Networks,” Larson said when the deal was announced. “I’m humbled that he has offered me five more years of doing a show that I look forward to every day.”
With a new deal that puts Larson more than halfway to 30 years in syndication, it won’t be long until he’s commenting on three decades of being on the air.
