SiriusXM and CNN host Michael Smerconish saw a viral moment over the weekend. During an interview with Dr. Anthony Fauci, Smerconish questioned the former Chief Medical Advisor to the President about the efficiency of masks in the fight against COVID-19.
The clip garnered millions of views on social media. In response, Smerconish shared why he asked the question.
“I’ve often told you, the Sirius XM radio program here on P.O.T.U.S. is often a proving ground for CNN on Saturday mornings,” Smerconish said during his SiriusXM show Monday. “Because I get 15 hours a week of live radio on Sirius XM, but I get one hour which is really more like 40 minutes of programming on CNN. It’s four different segments and that’s it. So, you know, whatever’s hot and seems to really strike a chord on radio, I’m always thinking about for television, and this was no different.
“So I started to think to myself that a good segment for CNN would be would people follow guidance from the government if they were told that masks were necessary, prudent, and in their best interest? Who better to have as a guest to talk about that subject than Dr. Anthony Fauci.”
Fauci’s response elicited reactions from both sides of the political aisle, as did the questioning from Michael Smerconish.
