Steve Mason: Peyton Manning Should ‘Give Up’ on Netflix Show

The NFL Netflix docuseries Quarterbacks garnered plenty of attention in the weeks leading up to the start of the new season, but 710 ESPN Los Angeles host Steve Mason wondered Friday if it was even worth pursuing another season of the show.

Patrick Mahomes, Marcus Mariota and Kirk Cousins were the three quarterbacks featured in the debut season of the program. On Mason & Ireland, it was mentioned that a number of quarterbacks have already been approached by Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions about participating in the next installment of the series. So far, no one has agreed to be featured.

Mason said there is only one name that should be on that list to ask or make a part of the series. If no one else has agreed to do the show, maybe the NFL and Omaha should just leave it where it is.

“Give it up,” Mason said. “Aaron Rodgers is the obvious name. If you could get Aaron Rodgers, that’s the one that would sell the show.”

“I do understand why guys don’t want to be a part of it, cause nobody wants a camera up their ass the entire training camp,” he added.

Co-host John Ireland added that ultimately the ones who end up doing the show come off much more likeable. It would certainly open some doors in Ireland’s eyes.

“I can’t imagine someone going on this quarterbacks thing on Netflix and not coming out of it with an endorsement deal,” he said.

Afternoon host Scott Kaplan chimed in saying that he thought Mason was right in that having cameras all around you would be a big hassle. But it comes down to motives for the quarterbacks who do end up being featured.

“A lot of these guys just don’t want to deal with it,” he said. “But Patrick Mahomes, he wanted this for his kids. It was like his own documentary.”
