Sid Rosenberg Pays Tribute to Bernie McGuirk on WABC

Longtime New York radio host Bernie McGuirk died on this day one year ago. To honor his memory, 77 WABC host Sid Rosenberg hosted a six-hour tribute to his partner Thursday.

Rosenberg welcomed station owner John Catsimatidis to open the program honoring his partner and friend.

“He probably saved tens of thousands of lives in the WABC audience. Those who loved Bernie realized what a mistake it is not to get yourself tested once a year or once every two years. And if there’s a problem, take care of the problem. Don’t hide it,” Catsimatidis said. “Problems like that don’t go away by themselves. And the one thing that I must commend Bernie in his passing, he helped tens of thousands of people live longer.”

Catsimatidis then noted that the funeral service held for McGuirk last year was what the longtime New York radio host was deserving of.

“We had 5,000 people there or something like that. And it was the ceremony that Bernie deserved.”

“That was a beautiful day at St. Patrick’s Cathedral,” Sid Rosenberg agreed. “The most important thing you said, which is true, is our friend Bernie did not die in vain. He’s saving lives, John, like you said, every day.”
