Fox News Speaker Forum Canceled After Candidates Pull Out

Fox News was supposed to air a “joint interview” Monday between host Bret Baier and Republican candidates Steve Scalise (LA), Jim Jordan (OH), and Kevin Hern (OK). The event was to occur at the U.S. Capitol, but that will not happen now.

A spokesperson for Jordan initially expressed that he wanted to reschedule the event to allow the candidates to speak to the GOP conference first. The conference has a closed-door forum scheduled for Tuesday.

“Mr. Jordan is always happy to share his plan for the country, but he believes it is crucial to meet with the GOP conference before the event,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

Nonetheless, it didn’t take long for Hern to pull out and for the Fox News event to fall apart.

“I still haven’t made a decision on my candidacy for speaker, but I know one thing for sure,” Hern wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “We need to make this decision as a conference, not on TV. The Republican conference needs a family discussion.”

Furthermore, The Hill reported, citing a source, that Scalise then also decided not to participate in the scheduled debate.
