Colin Cowherd’s sports media venture — The Volume — has grown to be a successful content farm, and now three separate companies are considering placing bids to purchase a stake in the company or completely outright buy the digital outlet.
According to a report from Front Office Sports, at least three companies are considering bids for the company founded by Cowherd in 2021.
Earlier this year, Cowherd claimed he was keenly aware of what the company’s valuation was despite his lack of interest in spinning off the company.
“I’ve talked to LionTree, a couple of banks. Again, we are in a very soft advertising market, so what your evaluation is can be very fluid,” Cowherd said during an appearance on The Marchand and Ourand Sports Media Podcast. “I feel very strongly about what we’re worth. And I am not looking to sell it. But it’s over $100 million.”
The Volume has seen an expansion in recent months. It has partnered with Shannon Sharpe’s Shay Shay Media to produce Club Shay Shay and a podcast featuring Sharpe and former NFL star Chad Johnson.
Cowherd wouldn’t be the first sports media member to sell off his podcast company. In 2020, Bill Simmons sold The Ringer to Spotify for a reported $200 million. Meanwhile, venture capitalist Peter Chernin bought a minority stake in Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions earlier this year that reportedly valued the company at $400 million.
