News/Talk radio was represented in 11 different categories at the 2023 Marconi Awards. Three of those categories during Wednesday night’s event included victories for some of the format’s top brands.
The top honor for News/Talk Station of the Year went to WTOP in Washington DC. WCCO in Minneapolis, WABC in New York, KFI in Los Angeles, and WWL in New Orleans were also nominated for the award. Hubbard Radio Washington DC Vice President and Market Manager Joel Oxley accepted the award on behalf of WTOP.
KCBS in San Francisco was recognized as the Legendary Station of the Year. Jen Seelig accepted the award for the Bay Area’s dominant news leader. WABC in New York, and WLW in Cincinnati were also nominated in the category.
The last news/talk winner came in the category of Best Podcast of the Year. KSL in Salt Lake City was recognized as the category winner for its work on The Letter. WTOP and KFI also had podcasts nominated in the category. Bonneville Executive Vice President Scott Sutherland accepted the award on behalf of KSL.
Format professionals who didn’t win but were nominated for awards included George Noory of Premiere Radio Networks, Gordy Rush of Talk 107.3 in Baton Rouge, Lincoln Ware of WDBZ in Cincinnati, Kevin Miller of KIDO in Boise, and Kayla Blakeslee of WOWO in Fort Wayne. News/Talk brands up for awards who weren’t mentioned earlier and were also up for consideration in various categories included WINS in New York, KMOX in St. Louis, and WHO in Des Moines.
