Rich Shertenlieb: Chris Russo Was Hoping to Bring Attention to Mad Dog Sports Radio

Chris “Mad Dog” Russo has been the talk of the sports media world after his declaration that he’d retire if the Arizona Diamondbacks made the World Series. 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Rich Shertenlieb has argued that Russo accomplished exactly what he wanted.

During Toucher & Rich Thursday, the Boston pair discussed the Russo retirement promise, with both saying they liked Mad Dog, but thought the entire situation was ridiculous.

“I don’t think a lot is expected of the Mad Dog channel now. It is what it is. I understand the value of going on those shows and taking a little bit of crap,” Shertenlieb said. “It’s got people talking about him. It’s got people talking about the Mad Dog network. This is all good for him. Everything’s good for him.”

Toucher & Rich previously shared their questioning for why Russo didn’t simply avoid the topic all together, and suggest that he said it in jest rather than turn the situation into a dayslong situation of being mocked and questioned.

The comments from Rich Shertenlieb came hours after an extension for his co-host, Fred Toucher, was announced by 98.5 The Sports Hub. Shertenlieb’s name was conspicuously absent from the release as rumors swirl about his potential future with the station. The duo did not discuss either Toucher’s extension or Shertenlieb’s lack of one during Thursday’s program.
