Pulitzer Prize Now Welcoming Submissions from Radio Journalists

Broadcast and audio organizations operating digital news sites are now included in the Pulitzer Prize journalism awards

The board has already honored audio journalists; however, they decided it’s time to expand the eligibility. Traditionally, broadcast outlets were ineligible for Pulitzer Prizes due to their limited text-based journalism.

Nonetheless, this has altered with increased written stories on broadcaster websites. Nowadays, newspapers publish articles with audio, video, data visuals, and traditional photography.

Considering the multimedia nature of contemporary journalism, the board has determined to include entries from news sites owned by broadcast and audio media companies, making them comparable to other entries.

“The Board made this change to open the door to more digital news sites that are doing important written investigative, enterprise and breaking news work,” Pulitzer Administrator Marjorie Miller said. “Although video may be part of the entry, these are not awards for broadcast journalism.”

The change will take effect for the 2024 prizes, which will begin accepting entries in December.
