WFLA is saying goodbye to Bud Hedinger, who will retire from the station after more than 20 years. The news/talk veteran impacted many station members, including his co-host, Alan Spector.
Spector credits Hedinger for helping him ease into the news/talk format with WFLA since he didn’t have much experience despite working in radio for several years.
“I will miss you,” Spector said on Hedinger’s last broadcast. “I’m a relative newcomer when it comes to news/talk radio. I’ve been in radio for many, many, many, many, many, many years. This is the first time I’ve worked in this particular format, and you’ve been so great to me in easing me into it and letting me be me. You’ve never told me what to say, what not to say.
“You’ve never told me what news story to cover or not to cover. You have let me use my sense of humor, which has always been part of what I’ve done on radio. You’ve let me make fun of you from time to time and have taken it always with good humor, and I appreciate all of that.”
Good Morning Orlando is now being hosted by Simon Conway. He comes to Florida from Iowa, where iHeartMedia regionally syndicated him on three stations: 1040 WHO in Des Moines, 600 WMT in Cedar Rapids, and 1420 WOC in Davenport.
