Paul Azinger Refused Paycut to Remain with NBC Sports

Earlier this week it was reported that Paul Azinger would no longer be NBC’s lead PGA Tour analyst, and now more details about the split between the two sides have emerged.

Multiple outlets reported that NBC wanted Azinger to take a pay cut on a one-year deal but turned down the network’s offer.

The offer came amidst what is believed to be cost-cutting moves by NBC.

Recently Golf Channel, owned by NBC’s parent company Comcast, laid off longtime producer Brandt Packer and let go of a coordinating and field producer.

Additionally, NBC tried to cut costs on golf coverage by not sending any production staff to the Ryder Cup last month in Italy.

Azinger had been NBC’s lead golf analyst since 2019. There is no word on who will replace Azinger on broadcasts. NBC’s portion of the 2024 PGA Tour schedule begins in February.
