In a post to X, Callahan revealed he’s making progress on a return, but is still not ready to return.

“I’m doing better but still struggling with voice issues. I still sound like Brando at the end of The Godfather. I have one more injection to go and hopefully then I’ll be ready to compete on The Voice,” Callahan wrote. “Or at least do (The Gerry Callahan Show) again.”

He continued by noting that he is disappointed he hasn’t been able to share his thoughts on the current political landscape in recent weeks.

“It’s killing me to sit out thru all the madness in the world. I’ve just been watching a lot of news and a lot of football, with my face painted of course. Thanks for your patience. Hope to talk to you soon.”

Callahan has hosted The Gerry Callahan Show since January 2020 after spending 20 years hosting mornings on Boston sports talk station WEEI.

It isn’t the first time Gary Callahan has dealt with voice-related issues. In 2007, he was gone from WEEI for several months as he underwent treatments after polyps and a malignant tumor was discovered causing him to be absent from his show from mid-April through mid-August of that year.
