Amazon in Talks to Invest in Diamond Sports Group

Diamond Sports Group is in discussions with Amazon over a potential investment in the bankrupt regional sports network operator.

The Wall Street Journal on Monday reported that negotiations on a multi-year streaming partnership are ongoing. It would make Prime Video the streaming home for Bally Sports broadcasts.

With bankruptcy proceedings ongoing, any agreement is subject to court approval. It’s possible the deal could be called off.

In 2019, when Disney sold its ownership stake in the YES Network, Amazon bought about 15% of that. Select in-market New York Yankees games have aired exclusively on Prime Video since 2021.

Back in March, Diamond Sports Group filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company largely hoped to restructure its debts and avoid liquidating its networks.
