As Christmas approaches, more and more talk radio hosts are taking vacation time, or stepping away from the usual serious topics to feature a little more lighthearted commentary. KOA’s Ross Kaminsky welcomed an iHeartMedia executive to his program Wednesday with the idea of sharing old radio stories.
Jojo Turnbeaugh is the Region Senior Vice President of Programming at iHeartMedia and was in Denver Wednesday to chat with Kaminsky.
“I thought it would be fun to have Jojo on the radio, because even though I’m not a radio lifer — I had a whole different career before radio,” Kaminsky said. “I think radio’s so fascinating and people who have been in radio forever have the best stories.”
Turnbeaugh joked he hoped there wouldn’t be any talk about Kaminsky’s contract during the discussion. He shared stories of his radio upbringing as a second-generation player in the business, after his father.
The executive then discussed his radio start, and how he was required to learn each intricacy before hitting the airwaves. Ross Kaminsky then shared he never actually learned how to operate the board when he began his radio career.
“I’m sure I could learn the board pretty quick, but I don’t know how to do it,” Kaminsky revealed. “I’ve watched over people’s shoulders from time to time, but I don’t know how to run a board.”
