Amazon Prime Video Executive Marie Donoghue Departing

After five years with the streaming video platform, Amazon Prime Video Vice President of Global Sports Video Marie Donoghue is departing the company.

The news — which was first reported by Andrew Marchand of the New York Post — comes after Prime Video recently concluded its second season as the home of the NFL’s Thursday Night Football package. The streaming service pays roughly $1 billion annually for the rights to the package in an 11-year deal.

Donoghue reported to Jay Marine, who was tasked with heading up the organization’s sports division in 2022 after previously working with the relevant product and tech divisions.

Marie Donoghue made the revelation she would be exiting Prime Video in an email to staffers Thursday, with the company confirming to Barrett Sports Media that the executive was set to exit. However, Prime Video declined to comment further.

Under her direction, Prime Video saw an expansion of live sports, documentaries, and sports talk programming. The company instituted a sports talk block on the streaming platform — featuring shows hosted by Cari Champion, Master Tesfatsion, and Rennae Stubbs, among others — which lasted less than a year before the plug was pulled on the endeavor.

However, Prime Video did secure rights to the aforementioned Thursday Night Football package, as well as an agreement with the New York Yankees, WNBA, and an upcoming deal with NASCAR for live rights.

Additionally, the platform has often been linked as a player for the upcoming NBA TV rights deal.

Before joining Prime Video in 2018, Donoghue spent almost two decades at ESPN. In her tenure, she had a hand in launching digital offerings like FiveThirtyEight, and also had oversight of ESPN Films.
