With the Portland Trail Blazers back on the court, and college football and basketball in full swing, sports radio in Portland had quality content to work with in the fall book. The weekday prime (M-F 6a-7p) story belonged to 1080 The Fan, which finished the quarter with a 3.9 share, eighth place finish in the Nielsen fall ratings book. That ranking was the highest among the three local stations in the market and up from a 3.6 share, tenth place finish last quarter. Compared to last fall, the outlet gained three-tenths of a share and two ranking positions.
In morning drive, Andy Johnson and Brandon Sprague garnered a 4.4 share, eighth-place result. Dirt & Sprague were down however from a 4.9, seventh-place result last quarter. However, the show improved from its 3.8, tenth place ranking last fall.
The early midday slot on the station is occupied by the FOX Sports Radio national program The Herd, featuring Colin Cowherd and Jason McIntyre. For the fall book, the program finished with a 1.1 share and twenty first place ranking. That was only one-tenth of a share and ranking position lower from the summer. Year-over-year, the program was down 1.6 shares and nine ranking positions.
Following Cowherd, The Fan’s Danny and Dusty earned a 2.3 share, sixteenth place finish between Noon and 3pm. The show’s share was flat compared to last quarter. Compared to the fall of 2022, the program was down eight-tenths of a share and six spots.
Afternoon drive with Isaac Ropp and Jason Scukanec remained 1080’s top story. The popular drive time team grew their share and ranking to a 6.7, fourth place finish. That result was the best of any sports radio show in the market this quarter. Isaac & Suke improved from a 5.8 share, fifth-place finish in the summer. They were also significantly up from last fall gaining 2.7 share points.
As a whole, 1080 The Fan finished as the top sports radio brand in the market among Men 25-54, Persons 25-54 and Men 18-49.
Alpha Media’s 750 The Game finished close to The Fan in weekday prime. The station was ninth with a 3.6 share for the quarter.
The Game’s morning and midday hours feature national sports radio programming. In mornings, The Dan Patrick Show accumulated a 2.8-share, fourteenth place finish in the fall book. From 9a-12p, The Jim Rome Show garnered the station’s top performance, scoring a 5.0 share, fourth place ranking and beating Cowherd head-to-head. After Rome, The Game airs Maggie & Perloff from 12p-3p, which pulled in a 3.4 share to rank eleventh. The CBS Sports Radio program also won its head-to-head matchup this quarter against Danny and Dusty.
In afternoons, John Canzano anchored the first three hours of the daypart followed by an hour of CBS Sports Radio programming. Both shows combined to finish eleventh with a 3.5 share among Men 25-54.
iHeartMedia’s Rip City Radio 620 finished the fall book with a 1.0 share in weekday prime (M-F 6a-7p). That ranked the station twenty third. Rip City Mornings began the programming slate from 6a-9a with Justin Myers reeling in a 1.6 share to snag a twentieth place finish. In the 9a-12p window, Rich Eisen Show recorded a 0.4 share, twenty fifth place result. The Doug Gottlieb Show occupied the Noon to 3 hours and landed a 0.7 share to rank twenty fourth.
The first three hours of the afternoon daypart featured local programming with Rip City Drive featuring hosts Dwight Jaynes and Chad Doing. The final hour of the daypart consists of FOX Sports Radio programming, leading to a combined 0.6 share, twenty fourth place outcome.
For the full week (M-SU 6a-12a), 1080 The Fan amassed a 3.6 share, finishing eighth. The station finished tenth in this category last fall with a 3.1 share, demonstrating year-over-year improvement. Comparative analysis against last quarter’s metrics demonstrate a four-tenths share increase and three-ranking rise. In the fall book, 750 The Game had a 3.2 share to grab an eleventh place finish. Rip City Radio 620 posted a 0.9 share, twenty sixth place result.
