Stephen A. Smith’s calling out of Jason Whitlock was the talk of sports media at the end of last week, but OutKick’s Dan Dakich feels like Smith was way out of line.
Dakich reacted to Smith’s podcast in a video posted on OutKick’s YouTube and said Smith piled on to an already terrible week for ESPN with everything going on involving Pat McAfee.
“Yesterday was one of the most embarrassing days in ESPN history,” Dakich said.
Dan Dakich continued by saying Smith using profanity and insulting Whitlock’s weight was way beneath one of the top stars on the network. But to Dakich it’s just another example of media members being too thin-skinned.
“It was unprofessional. It was sad, really,” he said. “And this is what I go back to, and I tell you this all the time. Media people cannot stand to be criticized. They cannot stand when they are called out. They cannot stand when somebody has an opinion that differs from theirs, and they are very strong about those opinions.”
Dan Dakich said there was no two bones about it. What Smith did no one else could’ve gotten away with.
“Long story short Stephen A. Smith embarrassed himself, he embarrassed the company, he embarrassed Disney and frankly should be fired for it,” he said. “Now there’s no way they’re going to fire Stephen A. Smith, and it has nothing to do with his drawing power, his ratings, nothing to do with that.”
“He should be fired. You just don’t do that,” Dakich later added.
