CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins, at age 31, is one of the youngest anchors in the network’s history. However, before becoming a host on the cable news platform’s primetime lineup, Collins used an opportunity with an outlet to launch her career, even if she had no idea what it was.
In a recent interview with Elle, Collins revealed that after graduating from the University of Alabama in 2014, she received an internship with The Daily Caller, which former Fox News host Tucker Carlson co-founded.
Nonetheless, the CNN host revealed that before starting her internship with The Daily Caller and relocating to Washington, D.C., she had no knowledge of the platform or who Carlson was.
“I didn’t even know what The Daily Caller was or who Tucker Carlson was,” Collins told Elle. She earned a promotion to staff entertainment reporter several months later. Still, it wasn’t exactly how Collins envisioned starting her career, but she says, “I needed a job.”
Collins shifted to the presidential campaign beat and eventually became The Daily Caller’s White House correspondent. After her work on the beat, CNN leaders noticed her, leading to Collins landing a position with the network.
At the network’s annual Sunday brunch during the White House Correspondents’ dinner weekend, former CNN president Jeff Zucker played a crucial role in sealing the deal. Kaitlan Collins stated, “I wasn’t actively seeking a job, but a few months later, I joined the White House team.”
