Jack Armstrong: ‘I Don’t Think You Can Be Even Somewhat Nuanced Anymore’ Talking Politics

Jon Stewart is returning to The Daily Show on Comedy Central on a Monday-only basis. The return has been a popular talking point, with many speculating what the re-boot of his tenure will look like. Jack Armstrong believes Stewart’s preferred style of hosting has gone by the wayside.

During Armstrong & Getty, the two hosts discussed Stewart’s return, when Armstrong revealed he was a regular watcher of The Daily Show when Stewart was host.

“I watched every night for years. Every night for years,” Armstrong reiterated. “He was always a lefty, but close enough to fair that I can tolerate it most of the time. I think there’s a decent chance this time around he ain’t gonna be anywhere near that. That’s just not where we are. We were talking a little bit ago about how quickly things have changed. I mean, the country was that much different just 10 years ago.”

Armstrong continued by questioning if fans of the show’s previous iteration with Stewart would welcome the same political talk he used to feature.

“I don’t think his old fans would tolerate him being ‘punch my side a little, punch the other side harder, punch myself.’ I don’t think they will tolerate that. I think he’s got to be full-on. ‘Trump’s gonna be a dictator and it’s a white supremacy country.’ It’ll be interesting to see if he tries his old show. I don’t think it’ll work”

“Full-on hysterical, radical lefty?,” questioned Joe Getty.

“I don’t think you can be even somewhat nuanced anymore,” Jack Armstrong replied.

That’s when Getty got sarcastic and joked the two should take the opposite approach than they usually do.

“Why are we wasting our time then? Let’s start pandering and get rich,” Getty joked. “Come on. Tell people what they want to hear and nothing but what they want to hear. When are you going to come around?!”
