Ben Shapiro has never been shy about his support of Israel in its conflict against Hamas and Palestine. And now he says he has no regrets about any of his opinions, going back as far as 2011.
During an appearance with Piers Morgan on his Uncensored program, the British commentator asked The Daily Wire co-founder about his “incendiary” opinion of the 2011 death of Rachel Corrie. In July of that year, Corrie was crushed to death by an Israeli bulldozer in Gaza.
At the time, Shapiro called Corrie one of the “great idiots of history”, in a tweet. Morgan brought up that tweet during the interview, asking Shapiro if he had any regrets about the phrasing used in the tweet. Shapiro said he doesn’t regret a thing.
“Not particularly. I think that Rachel Corrie — her death was tragic, but that doesn’t mean that she wasn’t engaged in deep foolishness,” Shapiro said. “There are many members of the West who unfortunately do act as useful idiots for terror groups.”
Ben Shapiro continued by noting his belief that Corrie only has herself to blame for her death.
“She was blocking a site that Israel had suggested was actually being used to hide terror tunnels, which as we now know is a frequent tactic being used in the Gaza Strip, and she planted herself in the blindspot of a bulldozer,” he argued. “Her death was a tragic accident. It’s tragic. That doesn’t mean that she wasn’t acting as a useful idiot on behalf of far more nefarious forces.”
When pushed by Morgan, Shapiro admitted he “might phrase it a differently now”, but remained steadfast in his opinion that she died “a fool” and “was acting on behalf of nefarious interests.”
