Earlier this week, 93.7 The Fan host and Pittsburgh sports columnist Ron Cook announced he was retiring. Today was his final show with Joe Starkey on The Cook & Joe Show and right after Pittsburgh Steelers great Joe Greene called in, his idol, Joe Namath, was the show’s final guest. Cook and Namath are both from Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.
The two mentioned stories from their days growing up in Beaver Falls and Cook talked about how he would imitate Namath in his backyard. “You were a hero to me,” Cook told “Broadway Joe.”
Namath capped off a week of goodbyes from the likes of John Calipari, Terry Francona and many others. Cook has said he will be headed to Florida, where he has a place in Ft. Meyers.
As Namath hung up and they had to sign off for the next show, Starkey said, “Ron, you’re a good man and I’m glad that we spent this time together.”
“First time in a while I won’t be saying ‘See you tomorrow at 10,'” Cook said. His final words were to his partner. “Stay well my friend, I love you.”
