Mississippi News/Talk Station Off Air After Cement Truck Flattens Tower

WNIX 1330, a news/talk station in Greeneville, Mississippi, is currently off the air after a mishap with a cement truck toppled its tower.

The station’s 200-foot tower — which was built in 1994 — was brought down after a cement truck backed into a guy wire, leading to its collapse. The cement truck was on hand to pour the pad for a new transmitter building.

Station owner Larry Fuss showcased photos of the damage to the tower site on Facebook earlier this week, noting that he hopes the station can return to the airwaves Thursday with the help of temporary equipment.

Fuss told RadioWorld.com that the owner of the cement truck never alerted the Mississippi station to the issue.

“The [construction company] didn’t even bother to call us and let us know what happened,” said Fuss. “We didn’t discover the damage until Monday when we couldn’t get the AM transmitter to come back up remotely.”

WNIX — billed as “The Talk of the Delta” — airs a syndicated lineup featuring Brian Kilmeade, Dana Loesch, Todd Starnes, Jimmy Failla, and Doug Stephan, among others.
