Longtime WCHV morning drive host and Program Director Joe Thomas has exited the station after he purchased WTON-AM in Staunton, Virginia.

Thomas, who had been at the Charlottesville news/talk station since 2007, entered into an agreement to purchase WTON — which is roughly 45 minutes away from Charlottesville — for $275,000. He also purchased a pair of FM translators at 98.9 and 101.1.

However, when Monticello Media – -the parent company of WCHV — found out about the deal, it severed ties with the longtime host.

“For someone that works with words I’ve been carefully considering how to say this without sounding negative… Here goes… I was let go by WCHV ownership on Saturday,” Thomas wrote on social media. “As with the end of all relationships, there is what I would say about what precipitated it and what they might say. Since they are not here to tell you their view, I will not taint your determinations with mine. That said, I hope to be able to talk to you again soon.”

In addition to his work with WCHV, Thomas also was a political commentator for WCAV-TV and co-founded the regionally syndicated The Afternoon Constitutional, according to Radio Insight.
