Monumental Sports Network announced this week a slate of live alternate broadcasts for Washington Capitals and Wizards games. Two 106.7 The Fan hosts, Grant Paulsen and JP Finlay are going to take part in those broadcasts. Paulsen spoke about the opportunity on his show today with partner Danny Rouhier.
“Not unlike a ‘ManningCast’ opposite Monday Night Football, myself, Bruce Boudreau, and for the first night, Tarik El-Bashir, who’s a Caps insider for Monumental, are going to be hanging out, sitting on couches, watching the game ‘ManningCast’ style,” he said. “We will have guests each period, coming and going, and we will be basically discussing what’s going on in the game. It will evolve into some ‘story-time with Uncle Bruce Boudreau’ a little bit as well. He is hilarious, just a great personality.”
Monumental plans to do alternative broadcasts for three Wizards game and five Capitals games and Paulsen said, “It opens the door for some big possibilities maybe going into next sports season to do this more regularly.”
Rouhier said, “I love this. I love this as an idea…This kind of thing is what broadcasters should be doing, this is what television networks should be doing. Find different ways to serve the same dish…I love the idea of having something slightly alternative. The idea of having a couple of guys chop it up on the couch.”
“…I am so fired up,” Paulsen said. “It’s something that for a couple of years, frankly since I saw the first ‘ManningCast,’ I have kind of been thinking this is something locally we have to figure out a way to do…I think it’s a big win for the crew [at Monumental Sports Network]. This is the first time on a local level that you’re going to see team’s games broadcast this way.”
