Building an audience in talk radio has proven to be a giant key to being a success. However, Jesse Kelly doesn’t want his audience to simply believe the same things he believes.
During The Jesse Kelly Show, the nationally syndicated host shared that he doesn’t view his role as saying whatever they audience wants to hear, and he doesn’t want the audience to agree with whatever he says.
“What I’m about to say I know because I see all the numbers and what the public likes and what they don’t like. What I’m about to say, I am about 99% sure you’re going to disagree with me on and I want you to know that that’s fine,” said Kelly.
“Remember, I don’t want you to agree with me on everything I want you to think. I want you to think. I don’t want you to be a sheep. If you’re offended, I don’t give a crap. But if you disagree, that’s totally fine.”
He went on to say that he believes he’s on the “opposite side of most of America” in his belief that sometimes there are just some private things that should be private. He used the recent situation regarding Bill Maher and former MTV star Steve-O seeing their “dirty laundry” about a disagreement about whether or not Maher should smoke marijuana during an interview with the recovering addict.
“There used to be a code of some kind in society. Not just American society, where dudes didn’t feel the need to act like 12-year-old girls and publicize every single squabble they had…and you see this all the time now in this country and I can’t stand it! It drives me mad.”
He added that he has near-constant arguments with other media members, but doesn’t ever bring them up because it’s not the public’s business.
“Privacy is so important,” Kelly concluded.
