Tucker Carlson: I’m Not Welcome at My Former Boarding School Because of Conservative Beliefs

Tucker Carlson has revealed he is not welcome at his high school alma mater — St. George’s School, a boarding school in Rhode Island — because of his conservative beliefs.

Carlson was hoping to speak to students at the school, but was forced to speak to them via Zoom because the school would not allow him to come on campus.

“I found, honestly in my exchanges with the administration at St. George’s, a total resistance to having anybody who they don’t agree with even in the same world. Like I’m not on your campus right now because they — the campus that I went to, and donated to, and sent my two children to — because they wouldn’t let me come,” Carlson said.

“And why wouldn’t they let me come? Well, of course, because they hate my politics. And my feeling was, well, that’s wrong. First of all, I want to be there. I want to meet the kids. I want to see the kids. And I feel it would be good for everyone to have this happen. I don’t want a mandatory chapel where everyone has to come and hear me; I don’t believe in that,” Carlson concluded. “I don’t want to press my views on people who don’t want to hear them.”

In a letter to the school’s community, St. George’s stated that because of “his public profile, and the significant challenges associated with a publicized on-campus visit, including the potential that people outside the community might seek to attend.”

The school added that due to Rhode Island state law, security with firearms aren’t allowed on school campuses.

The school was not happy that Tucker Carlson went public with his anger about the situation.

“We are disappointed that Mr. Carlson chose to record and share the Zoom discussion. The students deserved to know in advance if that was his plan. We also strongly disagree with his description of the discussions that led to the Zoom conversation as well as our openness to having students hear a wide range of viewers and perspectives, including Mr. Carlson’s,” a letter signed by the Chair of the Board of Trustees and the Head of School. “We are most troubled, however, by his unfair criticism of our dedicated faculty and staff. Their professionalism and commitment to our students is evident every day, and they have our full support and gratitude.”
