Danny Parkins: Ken Carman and Anthony Lima Are “Frauds”

670 The Score host Danny Parkins accepted an invitation to go on with 92.3 The Fan’s The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima, however, there was a slight miscommunication. While Lima had previously texted Parkins about his new book coming out and having him as a guest “on the show,” when Parkins connected for the interview, he realized he was on the after-show podcast and host Ken Carman was not going to be on with them.

As Parkins explained to his co-host Matt Spiegel, “I have been doing a lot of book promotion recently…basically, their morning show, Carman and Lima has a post-show podcast that I went on and I thought I was going on the show, but then it [also] opened their show today.”

Then, 670 The Score played the clip from 92.3 The Fan with them talking about Parkins.

As the show in Cleveland began, Ken Carman asked, “You had Danny Parkins on to talk trash about me apparently?”

Lima replied, “…I will be honest with you, Danny Parkins is one of these highfalutin Syracuse, Nick Wright, Andrew Fillipponi people, right…they only look out for each other, they only care about each other’s success. While me and you, we’re the ones getting all the headlines. It’s every day. Barrett Sports Media, the trades, the Talkers Heavy 500…it’s us every single time…So, Danny Parkins wrote a book about Division III basketball…”

“Well finally somebody wrote it,” Carman exclaimed. “Bill Simmons wrote The Big Book of Basketball, and Danny wrote the Big Book of Division III basketball, ok.”

Lima went on to explain he thought it would be an interesting topic since they talk on their show about where certain Browns front office people come from and that some of the subjects in the book have a connection to Cleveland, such as Mike Fratello.

Lima said about Parkins, “He wasn’t happy he was coming on the podcast to begin with and then he wasn’t necessarily happy that you were not on the podcast.

“He wanted to come on the regular show?” Carman asked. “Is there a guy driving down 480 now who wants to hear about Division III basketball?…He shouldn’t take it as some sort of slight about the podcast. Thats where we can get a bit wonkier and do a deep dive – he should be happy that he is on the podcast.”

Parkins and Spiegel played that audio on their show in Chicago and Parkins reaction was to say, “These guys are such frauds. And I love their show, they’re both really good.”

He went on to explain that he had received a text from Lima back at the end of January and Lima had said they would have Parkins on to talk about the book when it was coming out. He then said he got a short-notice invitation from Lima to do something in an hour and fifteen minutes and said the topics would include the book, NBA talk as well as NFL draft talk. Parkins didn’t think about the fact that the radio show would be over at the time Lima had asked about.

“We had talked about going on the show. Not the podcast. The show. The highly rated highly successful…show…I was pissed that I was on a podcast and not a radio show. I thought I am doing a 10-minute or 12-minute radio hit, and I’m doing 32 minutes on a podcast. It’s ridiculous…I’m trying to sell a book. How many people do you think listen to their new podcast compared to their radio show which is in morning drive?”

As Parkins finished, he summed it all up by saying, “I wasn’t planning on insulting Cleveland on their show. But when they bait and switch me and I’m on a podcast and not a show and it’s 35 minutes long…But they have a great show, very talented guys. I would have loved to have been on it.”
