KDKA Traffic Reporter Kathy Berggren Retires After 42 Years

After 42 years of updating Pittsburgh listeners on the latest traffic happenings, Kathy Berggren has stepped away from KDKA.

Berggren’s final day with the Audacy-owned station was Friday, departing after more than four decades in morning drive on the venerable news/talk station.

While speaking with morning host Larry Richert on her final day, Berggren shared how she began her radio career: with a pair of binoculars on top of the US Steel Tower with a two-way radio.

She joked that the job has gotten slightly easier now, utilizing a bevy of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation cameras to report.

“Kathy is the gold standard when it comes to traffic and as KDKA Radio (Brand Manager P.J. Kumanchik) put it, ‘Over the years and the different people to do it, she was the best,'” the station said.

Her final day concluded with an offer from the Pittsburgh Pirates to throw out the first pitch at a Spring Training game in 2025 at the team’s complex in Bradenton, Florida.
