WFAN recently changed their phone number for callers, switching from their previous 877-337-6666 number they had used for fifteen years. The new number, 888-808-1019 has been in play for a little over a week and this morning received a call hosts Gregg Giannotti and Boomer Esiason were definitely not expecting.
A woman named Joan in Ridgewood, New Jersey was put on the air, and she certainly did not call to give her take on the end of the Rangers season or complain about the Mets.
“I’m not doing well; I need somebody over here and I called this 888 number and somebody picked up,” she said. Gio confirmed the phone number and asked her what she thought the number would get her to. “I didn’t know, I was just hoping someone would pick up the telephone,” Joan said.
Producer Al Dukes jumped in and said, “When I spoke with Joan, she told me she was having an issue with her dryer, her La-Z-Boy and her telephone as well.”
A very confused Joan said something like, “How do I call somebody on my remote?” which clearly perplexed Esiason. As for her La-Z-Boy, Joan said, “I turned over the darn thing myself, don’t ask me how this happened this happened in my sleep.”
Giannotti tried to confirm, “You slept walk and turned a La-Z-Boy upside down?”
“So why did she dial our number?” Giannotti asks Dukes.
“She said I am calling from a very old phone, I am trying to get help, and no one says they can hear me. I said, ‘well I hear you fine, she said, ‘help me, help me.’ I said you have called a sports station and she said, ‘I don’t care, put me through to someone who can help me.’ So, I did get her number and address and called the Ridgewood, New Jersey Police Department, explained what happened and they were going to go over to check to make sure she was doing ok over there.”
Later, an update was posted to social media on Joan’s situation. Giannotti said, “We got an update, Al did call the police department there in Ridgewood. Joan did get a visit, a wellness check.”
“A police officer went over there and checked on Joan and actually did fix some of her issues,” said Dukes. “She had dead batteries in her remote control, and he was able to get the La-Z-Boy from off the floor, upright.”
“And he fixed the dryer as well, so he fixed all three things,” Giannotti added and then later said, “It all came together, Joan is doing ok, her son should be back today the officer said. It really is funny, she called WFAN to get those three things fixed and she got those three things fixed.”
As any good content creators would do, the video then turns into a promo to let the audience know if they need any repairs to call the station, or as Dukes put it, “Call BT and Sal.”
