As the 2024 election approaches, campaigns are attempting to find any avenue they can to reach potential voters. The podcast space seems to be a ripe opportunity.
According to new research from the Cumulus Media and Signal Hill Insights Podcast Download – Spring 2024 Report, 92% of heavy podcast consumers plan to vote in the upcoming election. Additionally, 91% of those who listen to podcasts at least once weekly responded similarly.
Weekly podcast listeners represented a wide array of views on the political spectrum according to the research. 35% of respondents claimed they were either very or somewhat conservative. Meanwhile, 33% claimed to be somewhat or very liberal. Another 33% claimed they were “middle of the road” politically.
93% of weekly podcast consumers are currently registered to vote. Of that 93%, 80% said they “always” vote in national elections. 63% responded similarly to statewide elections, with that figure dropping to 58% in local elections.
Another interesting anecdote regarded how soon podcast listeners consume recently released episodes. Of the weekly podcast consumers surveyed, 71% said they listened to new episodes within 24 hours of its debut. Also, more than half of those listeners will go back and listen to previous episodes.
