Newsmax has seen strong ratings growth in the last two years. CEO Christopher Ruddy believes its strong position in the cable ecosystem has helped.
While appearing on The Jeff Katz Show on WRVA in Richmond earlier this week, Ruddy said Newsmax fills a need by still focusing on its cable TV product.
“I think we’re playing an extremely important role being on cable. Everybody’s saying cable’s dying. Well, we’re big on cable. We’re almost overtaking CNN in the ratings,” Ruddy said.
However, despite being established on cable, there are still new innovations on the horizon for the brand.
“We’re going to implement technologies that are going into interconnect AI and all of those things as time goes on. I think we might be doing a lot more local news. We like podcasting. So that’s an area of growth. Fox News is changing. It’s not the same so the importance of Newsmax being there, President Trump has spoken very highly of Newsmax as his favorite channel.”
And while critics have argued that the network features purely partisan news in favor of conservatives, Ruddy disagrees.
“It’s interesting … people say we’re conservative with an independent perspective. We reaching out to people and we want people to know that when it comes to Newsmax, even Democrats come on Newsmax. We’re very fair to them,” he said. “We have critics of Donald Trump that come on Newsmax. Go on MSNBC and CNN, you will not find them having any pro-Trump people at all. They don’t exist.”
The network founded by Christopher Ruddy is slated to simulcast the CNN Presidential Debate on Thursday evening, alongside networks like NBC, FOX, MSNBC, Fox News, PBS, Scripps News, Spectrum News, and Fox News Radio.
