Boomer Esiason: Non-Quarterbacks in the NFL Are Going to Want to Be On Next Netflix Series

The Netflix show Receiver has received raved reviews in the early going and now it is also, potentially, making big news around the league. Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannotti discussed the show on this morning’s edition of Boomer & Gio on WFAN. The big focus was on Davante Adams of the Raiders, one of the featured wide receivers on the show, who does not come off as happy in Las Vegas on the show. Esiason talked about the rumors circulating that Adams could end up in New York soon as a member of the Jets.

As the hosts set up the conversation, they played a clip from Up and Adams where Kay Adams talked with Breece Hall of the New York Jets. Adams asks Hall if he has heard the Davante Adams talk. Hall then gives answers as if Adams is already a member of the team. Adams asks, “Is Davante a Jet?” Hall replied, “You never know, you never know.”

“Smoke, fire, like I told you last week,” Esiason said after the clip played. “This quite possibly could happen.”

Esiason then went on to talk about how Receiver shows some of Adams’ unhappiness plays out and explains it to Giannotti. “Here’s the deal, and I know you probably haven’t seen it yet but you gotta see it,” Esiason said. “I watched the first two episodes of [Receiver], Omaha Productions, Peyton Manning. He opens it up and hands it off to Randy Moss and it is awesome. All I am thinking about is ‘ok next year maybe its edge rushers, maybe its cornerbacks.’ Anybody who is watching this that is a player in the NFL, they’re going to want to be a part of this next year if they are not a quarterback. This is great.”

Esiason talked about a scene where Davante Adams gets hurt and says, “I gotta get out of here before I get killed.”

“He is not happy,” Esiason reiterates. “He is not happy at all. He doesn’t want to play with Aidan O’Connell, he doesn’t want to play with Gardner Minshew. He was frustrated with Jimmy Garoppolo. He is wide open with his opinions. I have to say, I really loved the first two episodes of this, more so than I did the quarterbacks.

“It’s so well done and it’s so unique watching these guys. We loved Quarterback but I am an advocate of what Peyton Manning and Omaha Productions is doing here and just showing these different personalities off the field and what they are like…They are so likeable. They all come across very likeable. But there is the part of them that they have to play football.”

Esiason later added, “I would be an advocate for that program a thousand times over.”
