Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, dropped his lawsuit against Fox News earlier this week. KFI AM-640 host Bill Handel believes the cable news channel had a strong defense.
In a 2022 mock trial series on the FOX Nation streaming platform, the network allegedly showed naked photos of Biden. After he threatened a lawsuit earlier this year, the series was pulled from the outlet. Biden launched the lawsuit anyway, claiming the network was guilty of breaking “revenge porn” laws in New York state.
On Tuesday morning, Handel noted his belief that the legal team for the President’s son filed the lawsuit alleging an inaccuracy.
“The reason his lawsuit had absolutely no legs was because he filed under the revenge porn statute. What Fox is saying is ‘This wasn’t revenge porn. This is part of our story. And there are the videos out there. Here are the photos. We are doing this as a political story.’ Which they did, by the way,” Handel, a former lawyer, said. “They weren’t doing this to sell porn. They were doing it to attack Hunter Biden. Under that statute, this isn’t revenge porn the way we know revenge porn. It’s not.”
Fox News has continually denied any wrongdoing in the case.
“This entirely politically motivated lawsuit is devoid of merit. The core complaint stems from a 2022 streaming program that Mr. Biden did not complain about until sending a letter in late April 2024,” a statement from Fox News read when the lawsuit was initially filed. “The program was removed within days of the letter, in an abundance of caution, but Hunter Biden is a public figure who has been the subject of multiple investigations and is now a convicted felon.
“Consistent with the First Amendment, FOX News has accurately covered the newsworthy events of Mr. Biden’s own making, and we look forward to vindicating our rights in court.”
