As Vice President Kamala Harris takes over the Democratic Party presidential nomination, Fox News has offered her and Donald Trump the chance to debate on the network.
Former President Donald Trump was originally scheduled to debate President Joe Biden in a televised event on Tuesday, September 10th airing on ABC. However, after Biden announced on Sunday that he would no longer seek the Democratic Party nomination for President, it put into question whether or not that previously scheduled debate would still happen.
The offer from Fox News is for a week after the proposed date with ABC. It would be held on Tuesday, September 17th and be hosted in Pennsylvania.
In a letter from Fox News President Jay Wallace obtained by Barrett Media, the executive wrote “We are open to discussion on the exact date, format, and location – with or without an audience.”
The proposal called for anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum to moderate the debate.
“We appreciate your consideration and look forward to the opportunity to foster informed political dialogue at this pivotal moment for our nation,” the letter concluded.
Harris had originally accepted a Vice Presidential debate offer from CBS News before Trump had named a running mate.
After President Biden announced he would step away from the race for the White House, Trump said he would be willing to debate Kamala Harris, but added that he wasn’t excited to do the debate with the Disney-owned network.
“I’m not thrilled with ABC,” Trump said during a conference call with reporters during a conference call organized by the Republican National Committee. “I guess they committed but I have at least equal say, and I don’t like the idea of ABC.”
Trump added he’d be willing to do more than one debate with his new challenger.
The announcement that Fox News has extended the invitation to both the Republican and Democratic nominees comes on the heels of Trump suggesting the network should host a pre-election debate on his Truth Social account earlier this week.
