July 2024 will go down in the history books for a multitude of reasons, and Fox News reaped the benefits of several gigantic news stories.
The network saw its highest ratings during the July timeframe in network history on the back of the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump, the appointment of J.D. Vance as his running mate, the 2024 Republican National Convention, and the announcement from President Biden that he will step away from the race for the White House.
Additionally, Fox News saw its most-watched month since November 2020 when former President Trump lost the race for the White House to Biden and subsequently alleged that the election was “rigged” and “stolen” from him. Fox News hosts parrotted those claims, leading the network to pay out a $787.5 million settlement to election machine company Dominion Voting Systems.
In primetime, the network averaged just under 3.5 million viewers during the month, representing a 78% increase compared to July 2023. In the adults 25-54 demographic, it featured an average audience of 498,000, which is a rise of 120% in the demo according to the network.
During the month, the network’s primetime shows rose in the top five ranked programs in cable news. Jesse Watters Primetime averaged 4.4 million viewers, while Sean Hannity’s program saw 4.3 million. The Ingraham Angle — hosted by Laura Ingraham — averaged an audience of 3.3 million. Meanwhile, shows earlier in the day like The Five (3.8 million) and Special Report with Bret Baier (2.9 million) also finished in the top five.
In total day figures, Fox News averaged 1.9 million viewers for the month. MSNBC was the next closest cable news outlet with 721,000 viewers, with CNN seeing 523,000.
