KSL Newsradio 102.7 Host Jeff Caplan: WCBS 880 Was Station That Motivated Me to Pursue Radio

Reactions continue to pour in as WCBS 880 is slated to sign off the air later this month. One of the many fans of the brand — KSL Newsradio 102.7 FM afternoon host Jeff Caplan — is sad to see the station go.

In an op-ed for KSLNewsRadio.com, Caplan shared that the station was the one that motivated him to pursue a career in the news radio space.

“As a kid, I’d hear their jingles and want to be the guy who talks right after,” Caplan wrote. “I was 12 years old, but I thought it was so cool. So I worked and I strived and at 33 they invited me to sit in that chair. It was the thrill of a lifetime. From the momentous to the ridiculous.”

He continued by noting that the situation highlights the notion that radio continues to be a powerful media and “the soundtrack of people’s lives.”

Jeff Caplan concluded by noting that the situation reminded him to be grateful for the listenership he receives on the Bonneville Salt Lake City news/talk outlet.

“I recognize a radio station back east going dark doesn’t mean a thing in Utah, but I just feel like it’s important to thank you for listening and allowing us at KSL to be a part of your life. You have no idea how much it’s appreciated,” he said.
