ABC News Promotes World News Tonight Executive Producer Almin Karamehmedovic to President

He has been with ABC News since 1998 after previously working at CBS News.

ABC World News Tonight Executive Producer Almin Karamehmedovic has been promoted to President of ABC News, according to numerous reports.

Karamehmedovic will step into the shoes vacated by former ABC News President Kim Godwin, who exited the role in May amid an investigation into her practices as leader of the organization. She departed after three years on the job after The Walt Disney Company brought in Debra OConnell to lead a new division for the company, essentially placing her above Godwin in the corporate structure.

“I approach this role with great respect and humility, not only for the hundreds of colleagues around the world whose tireless contributions fuel the unflinching and unbiased reporting of ABC News but also for the viewers we serve,” Karamhemedovic said.

“Almin has devoted his career to ABC News, mastering every role and elevating excellence in journalism by connecting with viewers in a very meaningful and profound way that resonates with them,” OConnell said. “He is a widely respected, seasoned journalist of the highest order who has worked his way up to senior executive producer of World News Tonight with David Muir, earning the trust of colleagues and industry peers along the way. I have no doubt ABC News will reach new heights under his leadership.”

Almin Karamehmedovic has served as the executive producer of the evening news program anchored by Muir since August 2014. He was previously the Executive Producer of Nightline, rising to the role in 2012 after working on the program since 2008. He has been with ABC News since 1998 after previously working at CBS News.

During his tenure with the organization, he has won 14 Emmy Awards, and five Edward R. Murrow Awards, and has also been a contributor to Peabody and DuPont Award victories.
