On Wednesday evening, video of Gus Walz, son of Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), went viral as he fought back tears during his father’s speech at the Democratic National Convention. 1130 WISN host Jay Weber criticized the teenager, leading to pushback from listeners and an apology from the Milwaukee host.
The 17-year-old suffers from a non-verbal learning disorder, anxiety disorder, and ADHD. The teenager cried as his father took the stage, and in a moment that went viral, shouted “That’s my dad!” when his father mentioned how much he loved his family.
In a post to social media, which has since been deleted, Jay Weber called the Walz’s son a “blubbering bitch boy.”
“Sorry, but this is embarrassing for both father and son. If the Walzs represent today’s American man, this country is screwed: ‘Meet my son, Gus. He’s a blubbering bitch boy. His mother and I are very proud’,” Weber wrote.
When listeners began to criticize the news/talk radio host, he recanted his statement.
“I didn’t realize the kid was disabled, and have taken the post down,” Weber wrote.
When another user said it was “generally just a good idea to leave candidates’ family members alone,” Weber concurred.
“I agree. In an X fever, I broke one of my own long-standing rules when I saw the video. I’ve said ‘the kids are off limits’ for decades, then fell into myself,” he admitted. “No excuses. Good reminder.”
During his defense, Weber argued that he’s “been challenging Walz on substance and character” since being named the Vice Presidential running mate atop the Democratic ticket with Kamala Harris. “He’s a congenital liar who’s destroyed Minnesota in a number of ways.”
I like Jay, but I will no longer listen to him. I have an autistic grandson, he’s 15. Jay, you deserve the hell you’re about to receive. At my job, I’d probably be fired for this.

Jay is also a certified public school teacher and has held many teaching and coaching positions. As a teacher and parent of two young men with disabilities, I can’t stomach the thought of someone like Jay working with children with differences. I’ll take Coach Walz over Coach Weber any day.

Behavior like this has been a stumbling-block to recruiting people to the Conservative cause since Rush Limbaugh’s earliest days back in 1989.
