The 2024 Democratic National Convention has come and gone, and it was a positive one for ABC World News Tonight with David Muir and the entire ABC News team.
For the first time in 30 years, ABC News led network news coverage of the event in total viewers, Adults 25-54, and Adults 18-49. During the acceptance speech of nominee Kamala Harris, ABC News saw 4.2 million viewers, topping NBC (3 million), and CBS (2.4 million), in the process. The figures from the broadcast network also bested the 3.9 million watching on CNN and the 2.3 million viewing the speech on Fox News.
Additionally, the nightly news program anchored by Muir averaged just over 7 million viewers during the week, making it the most-watched program in both broadcast and cable television.
NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt averaged 5.3 million viewers for the week, while CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell was third with just over 4 million viewers.
World News Tonight has been the top nightly network newscast for 297 of the past 300 weeks in total viewers and 225 of the past 230 weeks in the Adults 25-54 demographic. The success of the program led to the elevation of Almin Karamehmedovic from Senior Executive Producer of the newscast to President of ABC News.
Always been a David Muir fan. Happy to read he is still a winner. Congratulations to David for well-deserved accolades.
