Mark Madden: This Might Be My Last Week on 105.9 The X in Pittsburgh

"I'm not like other people on the radio in Pittsburgh, especially now with four days left on my contract."

Mark Madden has been a staple in Pittsburgh sports radio. But that could be coming to an end as his contract with 105.9 The X is nearing its end.

On Tuesday morning, Madden shared that he would be returning to his show after a vacation to England. He added that it was a “Big week. Maybe the last week.”

While discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers’ outlook for the 2024 season during his program Tuesday, Madden admitted his contract situation is coming to a head.

“I say what I mean. I’m not like other people on the radio in Pittsburgh, especially now with four days left on my contract,” Madden said. “I’m not like other people on the radio in Pittsburgh who say stuff for cause and effect. Everything I say, I mean.”

Later in his show, a caller mentioned Madden’s contract situation by stating “It’s been an honor to talk to you. Best of luck.”

“I’m not dying,” Madden quickly replied. “I’ve got a lot going on, whether I’m on the radio or not,” he later stated.

The 63-year-old Madden was also asked about writing a book, but said he “wouldn’t be interested in the amount of work that would take. And I don’t think that many people would be interested in reading it.”

“My contract is up Friday,” he continued after being asked if he was retiring. But when asked by a caller if that meant he was free to play golf on Tuesday, Mark Madden succinctly replied “No.”
