Longtime Pittsburgh sports radio host Mark Madden has announced he has signed a three-year contract extension to remain with 105.9 The X.
On Thursday afternoon, Madden admitted that he had been lying about the situation, knowing that he had agreed to a new deal a few weeks ago.
“I’m gonna keep doing this. That decision was made about two or three weeks ago,” Madden said. “I kayfabe’d up until now. Kayfabe’d everybody. It’s a three-year deal that probably I’ll probably quit after the ’25-’26 Penguins season ends, if I don’t die before then. So two more football seasons, two more hockey seasons. I’m already having buyer’s remorse.”
Mark Madden, who has been on the iHeartMedia Pittsburgh station since 2008, shared that as part of his new deal, the show will actually expand during the NFL and NHL seasons.
“I’m gonna get a lot more time off at the same price. That was the biggest factor in me continuing. But starting next week, Tuesday, the day after Labor Day, the show begins at 2 PM. It’ll be 2-6 PM. Four hours. That will be the case until the Penguins are done playing. Then, it’ll be back to 3-6 PM.”
105.9 The X serves as the radio flagship of the Pittsburgh Penguins, which means during the season Madden will often serve as a lead-in to the radio network’s coverage of the franchise.
The longtime Pittsburgh host added he wasn’t entirely sure he had made the correct decision to continue the program.
“I’m gonna keep doing it. I’m not sure I’m doing the right thing, but it’s good for you, good for Pittsburgh, and good for Pittsburgh sports,” he concluded. “Because I’m the best ever to do this in Pittsburgh. 28 years on top, non-stop since day one. I’m on an alt-rock station and the all-sports station can’t beat me. My formula is a simple one truth and charisma. So let’s move forward.”
