MSG Networks has announced the hiring of Tyler Murray as the play-by-play voice for the New York Knicks on 880 ESPN New York Radio. Murray will be paired with Monica McNutt as the main analyst with Alan Hahn and Wally Szczerbiak filling in on occasion.
Murray does play-by-play for the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox, and earlier this year had a chance to fill in on some Boston Red Sox games. When the Red Sox made the announcement that Murray would get to call some of their games this season, he had said, “Coming up on 13 seasons in [minor league baseball], it’s not lost on me how fortunate I am to have this opportunity. Thank you to [WEEI brand manager Ken Laird] and [Audacy Boston Senior Vice President/Market Manager Mike Thomas], and to everyone who has reached out. Your support has honestly been overwhelming, and I couldn’t be more grateful.”
Murray has also called college basketball for the University of Massachusetts on WEEI Springfield and the University of New Hampshire on ESPN+ while also working as the voice of the Hockey East “Game of the Week” on the New England Sports Network (NESN) and championship on 850 AM WEEI, amongst many other play-by-play assignments.
Murray, 34, said in a release, “As a lifelong Knicks fan, it’s always been my dream to call their games. The city, The Garden, the fans — there’s just nothing like Knicks basketball. It’s an absolute honor to join MSG Networks and I’m excited to put in the work to continue their incredible standard of Knicks coverage on ESPN Radio.”
“MSG Networks welcomes Tyler to our broadcast team,” said Kevin Marotta, senior vice president, content and marketing, MSG Networks. “We’ve admired Tyler’s versatility, his work ethic and his passion for New York Knicks basketball and he will be a great fit with our current group of distinguished Knicks broadcasters. Tyler and Monica McNutt will form a dynamic team that Knicks fans will respect and appreciate.”
