Jason Goff, who has had a couple of stints at 670 The Score in Chicago, said on his The Full Go podcast that he will not be taking Danny Parkins’ place at the station. Goff went over forty minutes talking about how he developed his passion for the business and ultimately landed at 670 The Score, leading up to talking about his unceremonious dismissal from the station six years ago.
Goff said he was excited about the possibility of going back to 670 The Score and was gearing himself up to start back on the radio full time when talks with 670 The Score owner Audacy broke down. Goff mentioned a desire to work with Laurence Holmes who is currently in middays with Dan Bernstein although said he ultimately decided he would also be excited to reunite with Spiegel and work with him in afternoon drive. He also mentioned Audacy having a problem with him keeping his podcast he has been doing with The Ringer and ultimately an incredibly one-sided contract being offered.
“I have been preparing myself to be the afternoon drive host, along with Matt Spiegel on 670 The Score,” he said. “When the conversations first started, I’m not going to lie to y’all. I said, I want to host with Laurence. Because it’s something that’s never been done in this country, in a top five market. It’s two black men, non-athletes, talking sports. And I wanted to set that stage.
“And then the conversations then changed and switched to me hosting with Matt Spiegel in afternoon drive. It was at this point that I allowed my representation to have conversations from that point on. There were all kinds of meetings that happened. Things that got talked about.
“…There was an issue with me continuing to do this pod. There was an issue with me having this outside of the Audacy Corporation. There were also other issues that probably could have come to terms on. But after what I went through and the way that I was let go, I told everybody I was going to put you all up on game. Let me tell you all something. These radio contracts, these joints are 60-day guarantees.
“…I’ll never forget Dan McNeil telling me, man, everybody wants a contract until they get one. This has been something that I have built up from episode one. This is something that I will continue to do. These are the people who wanted me to just be me.
“It’s an old school way of doing things that I can respect. Business is business…There’s also some other things that a person who got let go six years ago would have to have in a contract that just simply, they just simply weren’t there. I’d like to feel invested in, and The Ringer and Spotify have done that.
Goff then added, “…It is disappointing in a way because don’t let it, don’t let anybody fool you. You know, I was and am the choice. Don’t let them fool you. I don’t care what comes out, what gets spun because the last time I got let go, I read a lot of bulls***. I read a lot of lies from people who knew that they were lying to people on paper.
“…And I wish everybody over at The Score nothing but the best. Conversations that I’ve had with people over there, I was excited too, y’all.”
As he wrapped up, he made it clear that locally he had no problems with anyone and gave a shout out to Mitch Rosen who he had been talking to in Chicago.
“It’s not on them,” Goff said. “Put it like that.
Goff was named the producer of The Boers and Bernstein Show in 2007 before heading to Atlanta’s 92.9 The Game. He then returned to The Score in 2015 as co-host with Matt Spiegel for The Spiegel and Goff Show and then later moved to afternoon drive with Dan Bernstein for The Bernstein and Goff Show. He was let go from the station in March 2018.
Goff is also working for the new Chicago Sports Network and will be hosting Chicago Bulls pre- and post-game shows this upcoming season.
The most racist man in sports talk radio
Thank God he isn’t coming back. Goff was not only racist, but terrible at being a radio host.
