Phil Simms was a guest of Adam Schein on his SiriusXM Mad Dog Sports Radio show and said for the first time in his career, he will be doing analyst work on radio for NFL games on Westwood One. Simms said he will start this Thursday, calling the Cowboys-Giants game with Ian Eagle.
“I’m going to do the game on radio this week,” referring to the Giants. “I’m really excited about that. The Cowboys and Giants on Thursday night. And once I study a little more, it’ll be interesting, some of my takes early in the game.
“And of course I’m doing it with the great Ian Eagle on Westwood One.”
Schein responded, “That’s going to be so much fun. That’s going to be a tremendous listen. How fired up are you for that?”
“Well, I’m very fired up, but I’m a little nervous because I’ve never done radio before like that,” Simms said. “I know it’s short little bursts of talking and I’m fine with that too. I can make a point in seven seconds or five seconds, whatever they need. And as I said to a reporter once, ‘I’ve never heard anybody ever complained about somebody not talking enough.'”
Schein replied, “I actually think you’re going to love doing the radio color because it’s not necessarily talking to a replay or to a graphic or something. Pre-produced. I think you’re going to absolutely fall in love with it on Thursday, Phil.”
“Well, I hope so,” Simms said. “Cause I got a few of them coming down the road, so I better like this one…Doing it with Ian’s going to really help me out a lot because I know he’s funny, he is off the cuff and I know him well, I’ve done a few games with him on TV and pre-season stuff like that. So, we’ve always had a good time.”
