ESPN Reportedly Parts Ways with NBA Reporter Zach Lowe as Disney Layoffs Continue

Lowe has been with ESPN for 12 years and has provided written coverage, appears on ESPN TV and has hosted a podcast, The Lowe Post.

According to reports from Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, ESPN and NBA insider Zach Lowe have parted ways. Disney, ESPN’s parent company started another round of layoffs earlier this week. According to reports, around 300 employees were let go across various corporate departments but no ESPN layoffs were expected.

The company let go about 140 employees in the television division earlier this year which included two high-profile on-air talent losing their jobs in Robert Griffin III and Sam Ponder. Earlier in the year, Disney’s Pixar laid off 175 staff members. All of this follows the company laying off around 7,000 in 2023.

This is the second major move of late in ESPN’s NBA department as the company, unexpectedly, lost Adrian ‘Woj’ Wojnarowski last week after he decided to leave the business and take a position as GM for the St. Bonaventure men’s basketball program.

Lowe has been with ESPN for 12 years and has provided written coverage, appears on ESPN TV and has hosted a podcast, The Lowe Post. According to Marchand, Lowe’s seven-figure salary was the reason he was let go.

Lowe started his career covering the criminal justice system for the Stamford Advocate and The American Lawyer. He then spent time at Sports Illustrated, then at Grantland which was owned by ESPN.
